Venice Access Fee

The Municipality of Venice has introduced an Access Fee to be paid by occasional visitors on certain dates in April, May, June and July in 2024 and costs EUR 5 per day per person. This is said to have been introduced to reduce the high volume of tourists on the island during the day leaving behind lots of waste.

An exemption can be arranged for secondary school students on an educational trip.

​La Biennale di Venezia, 20 April to 24 November 2024

One of the most prestigious cultural events in the world, La Biennale di Venezia, has been running in Venice for the past 130 years, covering Art, Architecture, Cinema, Dance, Music, Theatre, and Historical Archives. For the last 25 years La Biennale has included an Australian national pavilion. This year's Australian pavilion will showcase a First Nations artist for only the second time, Archie Moore (click here to learn more about Archie Moore and his exhibit at this year's event).

The event also includes Biennale Educational promoting learning activities with a strong commitment to all audiences - universities, young children and students from all school levels. You may wish to include a visit to a future Biennale with your school group!

Bali Tourist Tax

The Bali Provincial Government has introduced a Tourist Tax for international visitors entering Bali to help with the negative impacts of tourism on the island. The Tax is AUD$15 per person.

Throughout the year we send staff on a Canberra  Ambassador Trip to find out first-hand what it feels like to tour with G.E.T.  A lot of work happens behind-the-scenes to make memorable tours for our school groups - our Canberra Ambassador Trip allows staff to experience the coach ride, stay in the same accommodation, eat the same meals and take part in the educational experiences that they booked for the school they are travelling with.

Amedee Island Environmental Program

The Amedee Island Lighthouse Marine Reserve in New Caledonia is a very special part of the world - with its crystal clear water, white sandy beaches and a coral garden full of tropical fish. To help protect this area the Amedee Island Environmental Program has been established for school groups to help safeguard the biodiversity and sustainable practices for a thriving ecosystem. Your students can assist by participating in a beach clean-up, maintenance of hiking trails, tree planting, soil conservation, removal of invasive plant species, and waste management. Your group will receive a Certificate of Appreciation acknowledging your contribution.

NT Learning Adventures Save and Learn Program

The NT Learning Adventures (NTLA) Save and Learn Program, run by Tourism NT, provides funding for Australian schools towards their school group travel to the Northern Territory. The current program is for travel between 1 January and 31 December 2024.

Schools need to follow a set of guidelines to be eligible to apply for funding:

  • Interstate schools need a minimum of ten students, stay in the NT for a minimum of five nights and book at least three NTLA operators - $2,000 funding available
  • NT schools need a minimum of ten students, stay in the NT for a minimum of four nights and book at least three NTLA operators - $1,600 funding available

PACER Rebates announced for 2024

The Australian Government's Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program provides financial assistance to support students’ on-site learning about national democratic, historical and cultural institutions in Canberra. Following the success of the 2023 program, the increased rebates will be offered again in 2024.

Your school tour must include at least three of the four mandatory PACER institutions:  the Australian Parliament House (Guided Tour), the Museum of Australian Democracy, the National Electoral Education Centre, and the Australian War Memorial.
